Research on Music and Brain Health

We are looking for volunteers to participate in a research study that will help us learn more about activities that may help improve mood and thinking in older adults. You will have the opportunity to earn two gift cards for a total value of $50 ($20 at beginning and $30 at completion of study) to Hannaford Supermarket for participating in the study. Participants will be asked to take tests of memory and thinking at two time points, fill out questionnaires and take part in a weekly one-hour music group for 12 sessions. Visits will either take place in the community group room at your residential facility (when applicable) or at a location at the University of Maine in Orono or Bangor (depending on which group is more convenient for you). You may be eligible if: • You are at least fifty-five years old • No physical limitations that prohibits playing musical recorder • No major problems with mood, memory or thinking skills • Able to sit for one-hour • Willingness to participate in music group and two cognitive assessments The study is being conducted by Drs. Rebecca MacAulay and Philip Edelman, assistant professors at the University of Maine. If interested or you would like to learn more, please leave your information on the sign-up form or you may contact Dr. MacAulay by phone: 207-581-2044 or email: rebecca.macaulay@maine.edu.
