Susan Woods, MD, MPH

Susan Woods, MD, MPH is an internist, researcher, and entrepreneur passionate about co-design for healthier communities. She founded MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence, a center of excellence in education, research, treatment, and policy, and the Maine Tobacco HelpLine. Sue served as Director of Patient Experience at the Veterans Health Administration’s Connected Care Office, led deployment of secure email, Open Notes, and VA’s patient generated data solution. Sue was CEO and Founder of Generated Health, a startup using automated texting for patient self- care. She was founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Participatory Medicine until 2024, and Sr. Editor at the Journal of Medical Extended Reality. She advises health tech and food startups, serves on Boards at the Hanley Center for Healthcare Leadership and Education, Healthy Communities of the Capital Area, and Maine Technology Institute’s IT Board. Sue co-founded NourishWorks, focused on how food and nutrition can improve peoples’ lives, communities, and the planet.
