Welcome to the Center on Aging Senior Companion Program

The Senior Companion Program is a volunteer program for individuals who are 55+ and interested in helping homebound or isolated seniors or disabled adults maximize, maintain, or regain their independence. The Senior Companion Program is genuinely neighbors helping neighbors.

Staying independent can challenge many seniors in Maine’s rural areas. Many older adults do not have relatives nearby and must rely on others to help them. Through the Senior Companion Program, homebound seniors can stay in their homes longer thanks to regular visits from Senior Companions — dedicated, active volunteers age 55 and older.

The Senior Companion Program serves 11 Maine counties, including Androscoggin, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset,  Waldo, and Washington. The Senior Companion Program volunteers serve  200 – 400 clients yearly. Last year, Senior Companions served approximately 200 clients, resulting in about 28,000 visiting hours. See how you can get involved.

Volunteers are needed in Androscoggin, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Waldo, and Washington Counties! Contact Michael Morang at michael.morang@maine.edu or (207) 262-7929 to ask how!
